What Kind of Travel Do You Need Right Now? Take the Quiz

Not destinations. Not bucket lists. Just alignment.

I've been resisting building a travel quiz for years.

I created one early on that identified four core travel motivations: novelty, escape, growth, and connection. It's thoughtful, well-researched, and honestly still works. But something always felt a little off about it.

I've never been comfortable with fixed categories. People are layered. Life is unpredictable. And the truth is, personality doesn't change much, but capacity does, because life does.

 

Maybe you love adventure, but you're exhausted right now. Maybe you crave the familiar one year and feel restless in it the next. Maybe you return to the same place year after year, not because you're unadventurous, but because it's the one spot where your nervous system knows how to exhale.

When travel ignores these shifts, it misses its chance to actually support you. You end up repeating what feels familiar, or chasing what looks exciting on Instagram, without ever asking whether it fits this moment in your life.

So the question I kept coming back to wasn't "Where should I go next?" It was something far more useful: What kind of travel do I need right now?

I wanted a quiz that reflects real life

I didn’t want to put my name behind a BuzzFeed-style quiz that labelled women, entertained them for five minutes, and sent them on their way. Sure those are fun, but I wanted something more useful, something that helped women learn about themselves without judgment or pressure to want something else.

When travel advice ignores the context of the traveller’s life, it creates pressure instead of clarity. You end up thinking: “I should want this” or “I should be more excited” or “Why does this feel like too much?”

That’s not a destination problem. That’s a misalignment problem.

Letting Travel Meet You Where You Are

The way I see it, travel works best when you know what you need. Sometimes it can stretch you. And sometimes it can simply give you enough distance to see things more clearly.

The problem isn’t that women choose the “wrong” destination. It’s that they make plans without listening to what they need.

This quiz guides you toward one of five supportive travel orientations: Restorative, Grounded, Expansive, Transitional, or Integrative. Each mode reflects a different relationship between your energy, your capacity, and what travel can do for you.

Restorative Travel

for when you’re tired. Not dramatically, not in a way you've necessarily said out loud, but tired underneath the keeping-up and the carrying-on. This is travel that gives more than it takes. Less movement, more space, more room to exhale. You don't come home changed so much as recharged.


Grounded Travel

…is for when something has felt slightly off lately. Not broken, just out of rhythm. You're not looking for a challenge right now, you're looking for solid ground, familiar structures, a slower pace, a sense of orientation. You're not playing small. You're rebuilding trust.


Expansive Travel

…is for when something in you is ready. Not reckless-ready. Just open, curious, a little restless in the best possible way. You have energy for new places and new perspectives, and saying yes to something unfamiliar feels more exciting than overwhelming. You come home more alive.

Transitional Travel

…is for when something is shifting and you can't quite name it yet. You feel it in the questions that keep surfacing, in the things that no longer fit the way they used to. This travel doesn't ask you to have answers before you're ready. It simply creates room for the next thing to take shape.

Integrative Travel

is for when you're less interested in what's next and more drawn to what it all means. The firsts have been had, the stories collected. This is travel as coherence rather than novelty, depth over breadth, presence over coverage. You come home with a clearer sense of the story you're already living.


Here’s What Travel Alignment Looks Like in Practice

If you’ve taken the quiz, you’ll see that the results don’t result in a list of destinations. This isn’t about ruling places in or out; it’s about changing how you experience wherever you go.

Instead, your results offer a new lens. One you can use to make decisions that align, so your travel actually serves you.

For Example

One of my early quiz testers received a Grounded Travel result just before leaving on a group trip she’d already booked. The destination or tour itself wasn’t “wrong” for her, but the pace and expectations had the potential to feel more expansive, adding more pressure than her nervous system wanted at that moment.

With that awareness, she didn’t cancel the trip or try to overhaul it. She adjusted how she approached it. She is choosing to,

  1. protect unscheduled mornings.

  2. rely on group activities and guides rather than navigating independently.

  3. release any food guilt by nourishing herself with what supports her energy, rather than what she feels she “should try.”

  4. skip optional excursions and focus on one or two experiences that matter most to her, instead of trying to do everything.

  5. plan to build in familiar anchors into each day - journalling, savouring tea, and giving herself unhurried time to sit, notice, and breathe.

The destination stays the same. The itinerary softens. The pressure is lifted.

That’s what alignment looks like in real life.

 

Why the way I built it mattered

Just as important as what I built was how I built it.

I wasn’t willing to create this quiz in a way that added pressure, complexity, or more noise, either to my nervous system or to the women taking it. I wanted something simple, humane, and easy to maintain. Something that could hold reflection without turning it into a funnel.
